Notes and limitations

The displayed rates are from banks' regular offers (this calculator does not include promotional/special offers by default). Where a bank pays a higher rate for signing through its online or mobile bank, we use that rate. Conditions may change and may differ from the bank's actual offer.

If you see -, the bank has no matching offer for the chosen term (or amount).

How it is calculated

How is deposit interest calculated?

Interest depends on the amount, the interest rate and the term. For terms of up to a year the sum is simple: amount × annual rate × fraction of the year. For longer terms the calculator adds the interest to the principal every year, so the following year you also earn interest on interest already credited.

Tax: in Slovenia, deposit interest of up to €1,000 a year is tax-free. You pay 25% tax on interest above that, which the calculator deducts to show the net amount. For terms longer than a year the calculator applies the limit to each year separately, as it assumes interest is credited yearly. If the bank pays all interest only at maturity, it all counts towards that year and the tax can be higher.

Example: a 12-month deposit at 2.5%

AmountGross interestTaxNet interest
€10,000€250€0€250
€50,000€1,250€62.50€1,187.50

For €50,000 only the €250 of interest above the €1,000 limit is taxed. Which bank pays the most for your amount and term is in the deposit comparison, and how deposits are protected is covered in the article on the deposit guarantee. If you would rather not lock the money away, compare savings-account rates in the article on neobanks in Slovenia.
